Cars in German City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
